Didi Lehnhausen paints both in the darkroom on photographic paper and with dye, pigments, beeswax, and oil on canvas. Today, she is based in a small town in Italy, nestled between the mountains and the sea. In her work, she explores the structures she encounters in her own life, drawing on ancient myths of the creation and destruction of cultures.

She spent the formative years of her practice in Amsterdam (NL) and Yogyakarta (ID), working with performance, film, and painting. She received her BFA with the Fine Arts Award in 2016 from the Gerrit Rietveld Academy. After graduation, she worked in Yogyakarta, collaborating with the artist collective Ruang MES 56 and in the batik workshop Leksa Ganesha.

Didi has had solo exhibitions at Nieuw Dakota (NL), Project Space PLAN B (NL), and Temple in Amsterdam (NL), as well as at Ruang MES 56 in Yogyakarta (ID). She has also participated in group exhibitions at the Westergasfabriek (NL) and Art Basel (CH) with the Neu/NOW festival, which showcases Europe’s emerging artists. Other group exhibitions include Urbane Kunst Ruhr (DE), BIG ART (NL), Art Rotterdam with Prospects & Concepts (NL), Lumen Travo Gallery (NL), Studio Kura (JP) and Studio Omstand (NL), among others. She has received support from the Mondriaan Fund with the Young Talent Fellowship and from the AFK (Amsterdam fund of the Art) with project funding and most recently receiving a one-year stipendium.
